Adventures at Riverside and Bass

To end the year, 2010, and to start off the new year, 2011, I enjoyed four visits to the Riverside Park and Bass River area.  We broke ice, hiked, identified trees, found a cocoon, and had fun.

Combined there are over 1,700 acres here to play on.  So when we walk at Riverside Park, this is in Ottawa County Michigan, we usually walk to point A (see on the aerial photo below).

On January 2,  Mike, Tilly, and I walked at Bass River Rec. Area all the way to point B, that is a long walk about 3.75 miles and there is much debris here from flooding the last few years.
Even in winter there is so much to see.
This picture is taken from what is called Fishermen's Point  (B on the aerial view photo).

Wow, cool aerial photo! I'm surprised there are so many plants out in this cold weather! I really like the American Bittersweet. Pretty!

More! I want More!
You've outdone yourself this time.
I really like seeing the plants in bloom then in winter. You make a dried-up flower look beautiful. I do remember Buttonbush in summer but I had forgotten that bee!
You have a special talent for finding beauty in unusual places. Thanks, M

Betsy, the aerial photo was taken from the map board at the park, it would great if we could go up in a plane or helicopter to check out the places we visit! Thank You for your interest. :)

Marie, yes there will be more, you should put your acounts on the blog, it would be twice as interesting. Soon it will be spring! :)

Awesome aerial photo and explanation! So much easier to understand. Please include aerial photos of all your hikes from now on, and also a map of nearby oil wells and oil/gas fields.

Ha Ha, now why would I have an interest in oil wells, Hm.

Unfortunately we can't afford the plane for aerial photos anymore.
