Those squawroots are strange. According to what I've read they are native here, growing on the roots of oak or beech as a parasite. I'll be looking for them this weekend!
M :) Thanks Marie. The Starflower pics didn't do justice to the plant, and there are many blooming in one area of the woods but I can't capture that either. My Jack-in-the-Pulpit is doing great! :)
New Hampshire Gardener, I thought you would like the Squawroot. It must be a good year for them. They do seem to grow on rotted tree stumps, strange but curious.
Maybe they are just not up yet in NH? Have you seen them there before?
A great spring day! This year has been strange, some plants are doing very well, other, the flowers come and go so quickly, much quicker than I remember from before.
quietsolopursuits, I have found some plants were very early blooming because of the warm spring, but some stuck to the usual schedule. How about those birds? Are they doing the normal things for the time of year? Well, for an answer I just need to read your blog! :)

Your photos do record a great day. The Starflower is my favorite. Seven petals - such extravagance. Thanks for the walk outside!

Thanks, Chris
No, I've never seen them before, but there are a lot of things I know of in NH that I haven't seen. That's what makes every trip so interesting!
