Autumn Wildflowers Ottawa County Michigan

Bass River Recreation Area is the place I go to see Closed Bottle Gentian and Nodding Ladies Tresses, and many more summer / fall wildflowers.  We didn’t have much rain this summer so most of the small ponds were dried up.  I didn’t see as many gentian as some years.  Throughout August and September I visited Bass several times. I really like this place, you can wander anywhere you want.  It is not a "stay on trails" sort of place.

We also find the white variety of the Closed Gentian here.

And Nodding Ladies Tresses Orchid are tucked in all over the place at Bass!

There are tons of Cardinal flower here too.

         Monkey Flower

     Gerardia

Fields of Joe Pye Weed

                    Chicory

                 Frogfruit

   Ironweed

Sunshine, Sunny for short

My new Grandpuppy is with me two days a week.  She likes the water but doesn't stop to look at the flowers!

What a great place to go! I've never seen the white gentians, ironweed or frog fruit. I'd go there just for the orchids though, which I haven't seen this year.
That's a very cute dog!

Thanks, Allen. It is one of my favorite places to go. The whole place was a gravel pit and there are not only flowers but some very interesting rocks. One down side is all sorts of hunting is allowed, archery deer hunting right now. So when I go in October I wear plenty of orange and I stay in the open. The white closed gentian and the blue type don’t grow in the same area, the white is basically in one place while the blue is everywhere at Bass. I have found a few different types of orchids here, mostly I see the Nodding Ladies Tresses ( 50 or more of them) they smell very sweet.
I like spending time with the puppy, I get to enjoy her and yet not own a dog. I just need to teach her to stop and smell the flowers.

Hello! I love your pictures! I'm trying to reach you so I can talk about an art project I'm currently doing, I would like to use one of your pictures from 2015, what is the best way to communicate about this?
