My sister, Marie kindly took me to Dowagiac Woods on Tuesday April 22, 2025. We saw wildflowers, thousands of wildflowers! In March of this year, Dowagiac Woods suffered a major wind event. Most trails have been made passable, which I’m sure was a lot of work. Luckily, we were able to wander for some 3 1/2 hours on a beautiful spring day around this nature sanctuary.

Thank you for sharing the views from your walk. The forest will be a lot different with those big trees snapped off. What a strong storm that must have been!
We recently had a nice nature day. We didn't go for a hike, but we were able to see a lot of neat wild things without leaving home. We found a rat snake, baby bunnies, and morels all on the same day last week!
Sister in the Mid-west, you are welcome. It sounds like you had a very good nature day! 🙂
Some really nice finds there. I will have to go for a walk with my camera soon. Thanks for posting
Hello Dave, it is hard to believe that tomorrow is the month of May already. I hope you can go out and see those wildflowers! Thanks for stopping by.🙂
Wow, what a storm that must have been! That was a great wildflower walk. I especially liked seeing the ones we don't have here like blue eyed Mary and hepatica. I'm glad you were able to get out and enjoy spring!
Yes it must have been quite the storm, the pictures don’t capture it like being there in person. Many pines had their tops just taken off. Other trees were uprooted and some huge ones just bent in half.
Hepatica is a favorite. The Blue-eyed Mary grow south of here, so I see them at Dowagiac Woods and one other park in southern Michigan.
Today we went to Aman Park where all the trillium bloom. Hopefully I will post that soon. I don’t take as many pictures and mostly I use my phone to take pictures. So I guess I just enjoy the moment more instead of getting that perfect picture which I probably already have on the computer some where from years past.
It was a lovely day today. Thanks for stopping by. 🙂
Dowagiac Woods never disappoints! Even with all the fallen trees. You do capture the day in your photos. Thanks, M
Dowagiac Woods is always a treat. Pictures definitely help me remember the day. Of course you have that wonderful gallery in your mind, ha ha.
