Wow! I've never seen most of those flowers, and I've lived here my entire life. There are just to many places to go to find flowers (and birds) in Michigan.

Have you been right down by the Kalamazoo River in the Allegan SGA? When I've kayaked the Kalamazoo in late summer,I see more flowers than any other place that I kayak, but, I couldn't ID most of them.

The cardinal flower is really beautiful. I wish I could find a few. The frog fruit is an odd one that I hadn't heard of until I saw it on another blog just the other day. I'll have to look it up and see if it grows here. Beautiful photos as usual!

Thanks Allen, Have you ever found Cardinal Flower? Looks like it blooms throughout NH.

Frogfruit I found blooming right here along the river years ago, I see it doesn't grow in NH (according to one book), it is a colorful flower of the Verbena family, it grows in moist ground.

You're right, there are so many places to go I don't even get to them all.
At Ottawa Marsh in Allegan State Game Area the boat launch is down a long two-track, but Marie and I made it back there fine. It would be a good place to launch a kayak, then you could make a list of the flowers and birds you see. Or you could just have a relaxing paddle.
