Dowagiac Woods

May 4, 2020 Dowagiac Woods in Cass County Michigan
It was a beautiful day for a walk in the woods.

                                                   Large-Flowered Trillium

                                                         Wild Ginger

                                                     Blue-Eyed Mary

                             A very new Maidenhair Fern

                                      Large-Flowered Bellwort

When I first saw this picture on the computer, I thought I was seeing a violet and Wild Leek.  Wild Leek is not blooming yet.  The white buds are actually from a Dwarf Ginseng.
                                       Dwarf Ginseng

Trillium, Dwarf Ginseng, Wild Leek leaves

                                     Spring Beauty

Very few Hepatica were still blooming.

                                            Miterwort

A great day in the woods.

Wow, that's a lot of dwarf ginseng. Coincidentally I was just taking photos of it myself less than an hour ago. It's on the rare side here and I've never seen that many.
And the trilliums! What a show they put on.
You have many flowers there that I've never seen and you're very lucky to have them.
Thanks for letting us see them!

Sister in the Mid-west thank you. Every Spring is a learning experience for me, or should I say a relearning experience.
It’s fun seeing all the Spring wildflowers!

You’re welcome, Allen. Dwarf Ginseng is everywhere at Dowagiac Woods, actually the ground is covered with so many plants. It is amazing. We also saw blooming Wild Geranium, Trout Lily, Greek Valerian, Marsh Marigold, Purple Cress, two types of Toothwort, buttercups, several anemone, and buds on Ohio Buckeye. Acres and acres of wildflowers, perfect day! Thanks.

Big Brother Dowagiac Woods is a place full of Spring wildflowers. Usually most of the plants are blooming in early May, some a bit earlier.

A lovely post! It was a great day. Cool and no bugs. Sunshine and that impossible blue sky. Never-ending wildflowers. Perfect in so many ways. Like your photos! Thank you. M :)
