North Country Trail, 76th Street, Lake County, Michigan

September 2, 2019  We took a day trip to hike a section of the NCT, new to us.  The trailhead is on 76th Street southwest of Baldwin.  We walked two hours south through Sterling Marsh, our walking distance was about 8 miles total.

After the walk we took the back roads home (about 78 miles).  Great day for a hike.

Nice walk! That mushroom looks like a purple trumpet, which are relatively rare here.

It was a nice walk. We plan to check out more sections of the NCT. It is amazing that there are 13 different raised boardwalks through this Sterling Marsh! I bet it was a lot of work building all of that way out in the woods. We saw several of the trumpet shaped mushrooms, also different ones...red, orange, shiny cream colored ones. Many flowers too. 🙂

What a treat to traverse a marsh without getting your feet wet! An 8-mile hike is impressive. M :)

M :) It was a treat to traverse the marsh without boots. It was fairly dry in most places along side the boardwalk, and muddy in some spots too. We saw Turtlehead, Blue Eyed Grass, and on the way back to the car I found several Rattlesnake Plantain plants. Cool new to us place.
